Footballers to add to their trophy case

The local football association will honour Cayman’s best on Saturday.

The annual Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) awards ceremony will be held Saturday 28 July 2007. It is expected to start 6pm at the University College of the Cayman Islands Multipurpose Hall.

Various awards will be given on the evening. Among them are for champion and runner-up of the league, player of the year, most improved player and most disciplined team.

The nominees for the awards have not been disclosed at this time. However all CIFA member clubs, teams, committee members, referees and volunteers, along with fans and family, are invited to attend.

President of CIFA Jeffrey Webb says this year’s season was a success.

‘It was a tremendous season. Players competed in roughly 19 competitions, which is a record number for Cayman football. There was lots of community involvement and things this year went great.’

Webb went on to say that next year promises to be just as good.

‘I look forward to next season. Next year will see new facilities in place along with different playing surfaces.

‘We also expect to see them gaining more playing experience. In addition we also see our players raising the standard of football in Cayman.’
