Boys headed to Grand Court

All charged with robbery

The five boys charged with robbery last month will be dealt with in the Grand Court, Crown Counsel Nathania Rankin confirmed on Friday.

The boys, whose ages range from 13 to 16, face charges of robbery, attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm following three incidents in the West Bay Road area over the weekend of 13-14 July.

The five have appeared before a magistrate in Youth Court twice so far. On the first occasion, one was granted bail with strict conditions, while the other four were remanded in custody.

At their second court appearance, defence attorneys agreed to a preliminary inquiry date of 31 August. Ms Rankin said the preliminary inquiry would be short form, which means witnesses will not have to give evidence in person at this stage.

If matters proceed as expected, the boys will then appear at the opening of the next Grand Court session, which is Wednesday, 5 September.
