The year 2008 will see the introduction of Rugby into the Grand Cayman communities for the 1st time in the history of Cayman Rugby.
Over the last sevens years junior rugby has become an integral part of the schools calendar, plus a regular Saturday morning program at the impressive South Sound Rd facility.
From January 2008, the communities of Bodden Town, East End, West Bay and Prospect, plus the already establish South Sound Saturday program will be targeted for community program rugby development.
The aim of the Maples and Calder program is to create ‘Community’ based rugby teams/programs, which will become part of an island league that will compete in a regular Cayman Island round robin based championships.
The target age groups will be girls and boys between 10 to 16 years, the focus of the development initially will be the Seven a side version of the game as this is a huge participatory version of the game throughout the West Indies with annual men and women’s regional .
Times and days for each community;
- Monday- East End Community Field 4.30pm to 6pm
- Tuesday- West Bay (John A Cumber School) 4.30pm to 6pm
- Wednesday- Prospect (Prospect Primary School) 4.30pm to 6pm
- Friday- Bodden Town (BT Primary School) 4.30pm to 6pm
- Saturday- South Sound rd Rugby Facility 8.30am to 10am
All programs will start on the 3rd week of January (week commencing 21st of January)
