The Ministry of Health and Human Services recently appointed Kafara Augustine to the newly created post of Corporate Communications Manager.
Her key responsibilities will include developing and managing the ministry’s communications and public relations strategies, said a GIS press release.
‘Filling the post of Corporate Communications Manager is part of our Ministry’s organisational re-structuring,’ said Chief Officer Diane Montoya. ‘We expect that she will make a valuable contribution, particularly as we set about implementing our multi-faceted mission of human development.’
Ms Augustine has a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in criminal justice from Loyola University in Chicago.
Her career started in the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, where she worked as a police officer and detective. She also gained public relations experience while working as the RCIPS Media Liaison Officer, and subsequently as an Information Officer with the Government Information Services.
In 2005, Ms Augustine entered the broadcast journalism field, to work with CITN, News 27 as a reporter. ‘Although I enjoyed my years in television, I am grateful to the ministry for granting me the opportunity to return to the public sector, develop new skills and contribute to the community. I look forward to the challenge.’
