The public is invited to the grand opening of Watler’s Road Park, corner of West Bay Road and Eastern Avenue, on Saturday 16 at 11 a.m.
There will be complimentary refreshments for everyone, and a bouncy castle, balloons, and special treat bags for children of the first 50 family’s arriving at the party.
In August 2006, resident Emily Davies took an initiative to form a group called Young Cayman Community Awareness Society. The group’s mandate was to raise funds from local organizations and refurbish the park in an area of George Town where children would enjoy a fun and healthy play area. With the approval and co-operation of the CI Government, that owns the land, YCCAS embarked on the park project, states a press release.
Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited, Citco Fund Services (Cayman Islands) Limited, Dart Management Limited, Digicel, Ernst & Young, and Robertson Design Build stepped up to become YCCAS Platinum Sponsors and their generous donations were used to purchase and install safe play equipment and to improve landscaping and build a gate and wall to ensure children stay within an enclosed area.
Companies such as UBS Fund Services (Cayman) Ltd., Royal Bank of Canada, NCB, and others donated additional funds to build a cabana and install benches for supervising adults.
YCCAS held a Run/Walk event in October 2006 to increase public exposure and to get members of the community out to see the park and also to encourage good health and exercise.
The YCCAS Executive Committee is grateful to the CI Government, all businesses and individuals who have assisted in the completion of the park and look forward to seeing everyone out on February 16.
Also, children, with supervising adults, are invited to come by daily and try out the swings and climbing bars during daylight hours.
