Two masked men robbed the Comfort Suites on West Bay Road early Wednesday morning.
The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call at approximately 2.40am from a member of the public reporting that the robbery was in progress.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service went to the scene and found that a security guard had been approached by two masked men. The security guard told officers the two men had entered the building armed with what he thought were a hand gun and a machete.
The men made off from the scene with an undisclosed sum of money.
The security guard sustained some injuries during the incident for which he received hospital treatment and was later released.
The RCIPS has begun an investigation into the matter. Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of the Comfort Suites, West Bay Road, or along Seven Mile Beach – in particular two men crossing the road – getting into a car or walking along the beach.
Anyone who can help should contact Detective Constable Paul Inniss on 916-4373 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling crime stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.
