An English man who was visiting Cayman on a cruise ship tour was found floating along Seven Mile Beach Monday afternoon.
The 69-year-old’s inert body was discovered by a snorkeller in the waters near the Royal Palms restaurant. He was taken to shore and transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene said the victim was expected to arrive at the restaurant to meet his wife for lunch. She apparently became worried when the man did not show up on time.
The man was believed to be a passenger on board the Ocean Village cruise liner. His identity was not immediately released.
The death is believed to be the third watersports related fatality of the year in Grand Cayman. A 64-year-old diver was found dead by a local fisherman off 12 Mile Bank on 31 January, and a 47-year-old woman died 19 January while on a dive off West Bay Public Beach.
