CASTRIES ST LUCIA West Indies head coach John Dyson wants a 3-0 series triumph when his team face Sri Lanka in the final match of the Digicel One-Day Series today at the Beauseujour Stadium in St Lucia.
West Indies lead the three-match series 2-0 following their victories at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad on Thursday and Saturday. Dyson said the aim is to have an emphatic whitewash.
“There will be no letting up, we are going all out to secure a clean sweep in this series,’ he said. ‘In a three-match series when you are up 2-0 is to go all out and sweep the series and this is what we plan to do.
“This has been a superb display so far and we are looking to continue the momentum we have developed. We will be looking for even more consistency and the aim is to finish off with another good victory.”
Dyson said there was no talk of a rotation system and noted that the best available players will take the field in St Lucia.
On Saturday, Windies blew Sri Lanka away in a seven-wicket win in front of a capacity crowd. Shivnarine Chanderpaul won the Man-of-the-Match award for his brilliant 52 not out, while Marlon Samuels was sensational, cracking 54 not out.
The pair shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 107 in 14 overs – at an amazing 7.6 runs an over.
Chanderpaul has continued his superb form following his match-winning 62 not out on Thursday – when West Indies needed 10 off the last two balls for victory. He hit a penultimate four and a last ball six as the West Indies won by one wicket.
Chanderpaul is going through a purple patch in his career and the 33-year-old Guyanese is finally getting the accolades.
He got a raft of trophies at the West Indies Players Association annual awards last week and was voted one of the five cricketers of the year by the Wisden Almanack. Consensus is that he is finally being hailed after years of playing second fiddle to Brian Lara.
