Two injured in car crash

Two people – one a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service officer – were taken to hospital in the early hours of Friday morning following a two-vehicle car crash on Crewe Road.

A member of the public called the 911 Emergency Communications Centre around 3.30am reporting that two cars had collided in the vicinity of Tropical Gardens. Police and medics responded and found that the man driving the police car and the woman driving the Toyota Yaris had sustained injuries.

They were taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

The police Impala had been travelling away from George Town and the Toyota Yaris travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred. The police officer was on duty, carrying out mobile patrols.

An investigation is under way to determine what happened. In line with the traffic law, both parties were required to partake in breath tests which came out negative.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact the Head of Traffic, Chief Inspector Courtney Myles, on 926-0649 or 946-6254.
