The awards were presented at the Annual Kiwanis International Convention held in Orlando, Florida in June.

Members congratulated Paul and Linda for obtaining this recognition and for their dedication to Kiwanis. This was the second time around for Paul as President of the Club. Linda is also a multiple Past President.

There has been a 50 per cent increase in membership of the Kiwanis Club since 2006. During the presidency of Paul de Freitas, new projects were introduced which fired the imagination of many who wished to serve in the community. These included the Key Leader programme, now held annually in September, which is a teamwork and leadership skills event for Grades 12 and older.

In addition, the Buy a Kid Breakfast Programme now provides funds raised from generous public donations to buy a healthy breakfast for those children who are sent to school without any breakfast. Four prep schools and one pre-school are regular recipients of these funds.

Also, a new Circle K Club for students of college age was formed at St. Matthews University.

Linda Key also spearheaded the BUG (Bring Up Grades) Programme, which was first launched at First Baptist Christian School where it was a great success, and is planned to be introduced to other schools in Cayman.

Other continuing Club projects are the popular Santa Landing, an annual Christmas party for kids; the Reading Aloud programme; the Annual Kiwanibike; the Joe Patterson Memorial Golf Tournament; and the sponsorship of Key Clubs at John Gray, Triple C, Cayman Prep and St. Ignatius high schools.
