A recent comment aired on Cayman Islands television would leave one thinking that the poor turnout at the Bodden Town Civic Center for the Constitution talks recently is indicative of local interest or lack thereof.
What the speaker failed to realise is that Radio Cayman and other local media (including the print media) are doing an outstanding job informing many through live broadcasts and other programmes and articles. It is equally noteworthy that CITN aired the discussions from the Ritz on Monday, 29 September.
Let us not be misled into thinking that many do not realise the significance of these negotiations. Many persons are paying close attention to individual and collective points of view on constitutional advancement.
While every effort must be made to reach all persons and to encourage wide scale participation, empty seats are not the only indicators of public interest.
