It’s nearly Christmas and coming up on Boxing Day, Friday, 26 December is one of the highlights of the holiday season-
The 11th annual Dashing Thru the Sand beach run/walk will be as popular as ever. A surprisingly large number of visitors and residents will rise early for the 7:30am start as they tackle the one and one-half miles on Seven Mile Beach between Hemingway’s and the Gecko Cafe at the Courtyard by Marriott.
Spurred on by the enthusiasm of participants of all ages and abilities, more than 200 celebrants are expected to vie for prizes for the fastest and the lastest, and for awards to many recipients in between.
The event is sponsored by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, and organized by the Phoenix Athletic Club, with breakfast provided on the beach at the Gecko Cafe from the Courtyard by Marriott.
Enjoyed by everyone present, including large family groups and four-legged friends, recognition is offered to speedsters and slowpokes, youngsters and oldsters, furthest traveller, and other persons of distinction.
The latest John Broad contribution to Cayman Christmas casual wear will be distributed to all participants, swiftest performers and back-of-the-packers will be rewarded and a cornucopia of theme-related prizes, as well as airline tickets, will be received by fortunate individuals. Breakfast is also part of the package.
Since it will be Boxing Day, a number of Cayman’s representative pugilists, as well as the national boxing coach, Donie Anglin, are expected to show off some fancy footwork.
Underscoring the popularity of the activity, confirmation has already been received from more than 50 of last year’s off-island dashers.
Everything is included in the CI $20/US $25 entry fee. Potential participants are invited to call 945-3970 or email [email protected] to register and receive event shirts beginning today.
Event day registration will be possible under the Hyatt Bridge from 6:30-7:15 a.m.
