Elite battles Future Sunday at Ed Bush

Top of the table team Elite SC meets Future SC in a grudge game in the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Premier League competition at the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay at 5:00pm.

Both teams are yet to break the ice for this season as neither has beaten the other. Their match-ups always ended in deadlock with their last outing producing a 0-0 score.

Can Calvin Jefford, Jairo Sanchez, the Godet brothers or CIFA’s player of the year for last season Rene Carter pull this first win off? Or will Mark Ebanks bask in the glory of scoring the all-important goal in this game?

Those questions and more will be answered on Sunday when West Bay comes alive with the staging of this decisive game.

According to Technical Director of Elite Gregg Ebanks his team is preparing for this game like any other game but the focus will be on winning their first game against Future in the Premier League.

‘Basically we have never beaten Future during since the start of this competition. This is a hurdle that we are trying very hard to get over. The players are ready for the game and on Sunday we will see how it goes,’ Ebanks said.

In the feature game at 7:00pm George Town and Scholars International locked at nineteen points each on the league tables will do battle as both teams try desperately to go ahead.

George Town with the absence of key players Garth Anderson and Ian Lindo last weekend stopped Sunset 2-1. Ian Lindo returns this Sunday and with the introduction of some new and younger players the George Town squad seems ready for the battle.

Scholars International lost to Elite 1-0 in the 84th minute at Ed Bush last weekend after a keenly contested game which could have gone either way. They need this win to stay in contention to cop the Premier League title as well as to build the momentum going into the CIFA Digicel Finals on Ash Wednesday.

This game will be quite interesting as spectators look out for Donald Solomon JR in midfield and the inexhaustible Justin Pierre as they connect with the experience of Lee Ramoon in the attacking line up.

John Kelly, Encuma Brown and Clay Coleman in goal are expected to keep off the attacks of the ingenious David ‘Starky’ Harding, Kingsley Wellington and Lorenzo Brown who along with Rodriquez Nahan will be a force to reckon with in this do or die game.

This will be a very vigorous game as both teams are looking to earn the full points and keep the momentum going. George Town and Scholars International are famous for their rivalry and this will make the results even more interesting.

According to the updated league standings Elite are on twenty-five points clearly ahead of Sunset who has twenty, rivals Scholars and George Town are locked on nineteen points, Latinos moved up to twelve Future on eleven Tigers leapt up to eight points and Roma has dropped back to the bottom with six points.
