Rene Carter’s talismanic performance on Sunday at the Annex was all Elite needed to turn back George Town 1-0 and advance to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
Carter scored in the 53rd minute in a competitive game which saw George Town hitting Elite’s cross bar goal several times.
Elite, with the absence of prolific striker Calvin Jefford and the responsive midfielder Gabriel Godet who were overseas on trials, were mostly in control but not much more than the former FA Cup champions George Town who were fully loaded except for the absence of defensive midfielder Donald Solomon who is also away trials.
It was man of the match Carter all the way going forward moving from left to right and to centre of the field in his overlapping and play making role.
Several of his goal attempts were thwarted as the deadly Donavan Godet was marked closely by Encuma ‘Bulla’ Brown and Michael Thornton in George Town’s defence.
There was no room for the prolific former national player Lee Ramoon to turn despite being fully supported by Ian Lindo and Justin Pierre.
They were all prevented from going forward by Benjamin Cupid, Abijah Rivers and Jairo Sanchez.
Veteran Neil Murray had a great game as well but lost the ball when he fell while Carter was advancing towards goal. Carter fired superbly, just out of the reach of keeper Clay Coleman.
George Town made a brilliant change, substituting the exhausted Mitchie Williams for Jessus Ebanks. It made a big difference but unfortunately for George Town they ran out of time as referee Francisco Coelho blew the final whistle.
In the other game played earlier at this venue it was goals galore as Bodden Town hammered Cayman Athletics 7-2.
The prolific Theron Wood netted four times in the 16th 28th, 85th and 90th minutes while Arvid Harris scored in the 51st and Charles McLean got two in the 57th and 63rd minute.
Raheem Robinson pulled back two goals in the 35th and 56th minute for Cayman Athletics.
