Election website launched

Cayman Free Press Ltd launched a website today at caycompass.com to give special coverage to the general elections and referendum scheduled for 20 May.

The interactive website, which is simply called Election 09, contains volumes of useful information about Cayman’s upcoming election. Over the next few weeks and up through the election, the website will add information about all of the candidates, including their stances on the various campaign issues, through a series of submitted articles, video interviews and written interviews.

Cayman Free Press Editor Tammie Chisholm said the website presents a consistent way of providing election information.

‘Our election website will have elements not included in the coverage of our other publications or on our regular website,’ she said. ‘It will also have interactive aspects like an election blog and opinion polls on the various issues.’

Other features of the website include an election countdown clock; archived stories about the election from the Caymanian Compass and the Observer on Sunday newspapers; a special section on the referendum on the proposed new constitution; man-on-the-street interviews about election issues; and all the information about the election put out from the Elections Office.

‘We’ll also be able to get important information on to the website much more quickly than in our print publications, including the results on the night of the election,’ Mrs. Chisholm said.

The Elections 09 website can be accessed through the main caycompass.com site, or at www.compasscayman.com/elections.
