Playoffs swing ahead

It’s playoff time in the world of local softball.

The Winter Adult Co-Ed Softball League sees the start of its post-season early next week.

The Field of Dreams facility will be a buzz starting this Monday from 8:30pm.

The first pair of games on for the evening will see sudden C League favourites Julius Baer take on PWC Scorpions while the top B league squad from the Silver Thatch division battles Citi Insomniacs.

Julius Baer, lead in large part by flag football stars Renford Barnes and Oliver Parker, have climbed the ranks quickly. In their first season in co-ed softball they have compiled a 9-2 mark and are regular season champions of the C league.

Meanwhile PWC continue their legacy as one of the most lively, fun-loving team in the sport. They are a big underdog in the match but having a good time on the field will be foremost on their minds.

In the other game the top-seeded B league side could be one of two teams. Coming into this week the Silver Thatch division saw Vivendi Cabaret and Doghouse Glovernauts battling it out.

Either way Citi will be huge underdogs. The side was just 1-9 coming into this week while scoring the fewest amount of runs in the B league with 68.

The playoffs continue the rest of the month and are set to wrap up the week of April 27 with the crowning of the overall champions in each league.

This week (week 12) will see many teams playing with a better playoff position on their minds.

Heading into week 12 the B league had many seeds left to be decided while the A league had settled all but the top two and the C league was completely sorted.

Among the more interesting playoff scenarios is in the Banana Orchid division of the B league. CML, who were promoted to the league at the start of the season, are on the verge of grabbing a top seed.

A win over Fluor or a loss by current frontrunners Maples Sluggers to Senor Frogs would seal the epic turnaround.

Games were slated to take place this week from Tuesday to Sunday.

But last week, week 11, was a pivotal one in the race to the playoffs.

The action started on Sunday as Ritz Carlton Jesters stayed in the hunt for a #2 seed in the B leaguer with a 9-7 win over PWC Experience.

On the same day KPMG A set back Chuggers and their rise in the rankings with an emphatic 9-8 win. KPMG Bounty Hunters got a big win over PWC 21-19 and Jose’s Escape edged past Doghouse 18-17.

On Monday Julius Baer beat up Maples C 17-3 to secure elite status in the C league. From there Doghouse got a big 9-5 win over Fluor and Master Batters avoided a big upset to KM Ltd with a 14-13 win.

Tuesday saw Jose’s Escape deal Coolers a big blow as they won 18-16 before KPMG Bounty Hunters grabbed another big win as they took down Senor Frogs 23-11.

The standings in each division heading into this week saw Coolers (7-5), Home Gas (7-5), KPMG A (4-6-1) and KM Ltd (1-10) in the Breadfruit division.

Jose’s Escape (9-2), Deloitte Canadian Bacon (7-3-1), Master Batters (6-5) and Chuggers (5-6) are in the Cassava division.

Doghouse Glovernauts (8-4), Vivendi Cabaret (7-4), Ritz Carlton Royal Jesters (7-5) and Citi Insomniacs (1-10) make up the Silver Thatch division.

Over in the Banana Orchid division CML Hammerheads (7-3-1), Maples Sluggers (7-4), KPMG Bounty Hunters (7-5), PWC Experience (5-6), Fluor Sweepers (3-8) and Senor Frogs (2-8) round out the division.

Finally in the Conch League there is Julius Baer (9-2), Maples C (7-3-1), Electratech Pure Energy (4-7) and PWC Scorpions (1-10).
