FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has praised Elite FC and Women United for their successful run in the 2008-2009 football seasons.
In an email sent to the Cayman Islands Football Association he wrote: ‘Dear Ms (Martha) Godet and Ms (Sharaine) Chin it is with great pleasure that I send my congratulations to you both as well as your clubs Elite Sports Club and Women United for their successes this season.
‘I make mention of Elite SC for winning the Cayman Islands inaugural Premier League for the first time in the club’s history and taking the Digicel Cup. Women’s United I have learnt has been unbeaten for the entire season and have taken all four available titles for the season.
‘Please convey my warmest wishes to all of the players your head coaches the medical and technical staff and all the team’s loyal supporters as each part of this organization have no doubt been instrumental in the club’s success.
‘On behalf of the entire football family of FIFA I thank you for the excitement you brought to the fans of beautiful game and wish you and your organization much success in the years to come.’
Blatter is one of the most powerful figures in international sport, and under his leadership football has flourished extensively during the past decade.
Jeffrey Webb President of CIFA was thrilled to learn of the recognition that the relatively new clubs had earned from football’s most powerful official.
‘It is an awesome feeling for me as President of CIFA to have received such a letter from Mr. Blatter recognizing the teams’ hard work and well deserved success,’ Webb said.
‘This just goes to show that hard work, unity, discipline, dedication excellent character and a clean heart can elevate teams to the highest level.
‘Elite and Women United must be elated to have been recognized by a gentleman of this calibre. They have taken two and four trophies respectively for the season and Elite were into the finals of a third but lost to Bodden Town. I wish them all the best.’
Martha Godet is a player and official with Elite. Her sons play for them. She welcomed the recognition. She said: ‘We are honoured to receive his commendations and good wishes. We will use this as further inspiration to elevate our club to the next level of football.
‘Elite Sports Club will endeavour to use this year’s accomplishments as a benchmark to guide our future objectives, and will continue to use the beautiful game to build camaraderie and character among men and women of the club and our wider community.’
Sharaine Chin President of Women United was thrilled to have her club receiving such an extraordinary recognition and said: ‘I am thrilled to hear of the recognition Women United received from President Blatter. On behalf of the Women United FC I thank you very much. The girls are dedicated to the game of football and have trained extremely hard throughout the season.
‘I congratulate the other women’s teams who have improved tremendously this season and gave Women United a tough time to acquire all this success this season.
‘I also congratulate Coach Bobby McLaren, Coach Thiago Cunha, the parents and supporters who have played their part in guiding the team to this level of success.’
