Saheed Mohamed’s third century led Prison to back to back league titles when they emerged victorious in the head to head clash with Greenies.
Having won the title in 2008, Prison showed real poise on the road to victory winning the 2009 Clico Cayman Division 1 League title at the Jimmy Powell Oval.
Entering the action with Prison tottering at 3 wickets for 39 runs, Mohamed produced a gem of an innings with 13 well executed fours and one massive hit over the boundary.
Greenies won the toss and asked Prison to bat first. It was not the best of starts as Greenies showed the reason they were in the joint leaders’ position coming into this final match.
With top all rounder Josh Brown bustling in from the northern end and his partner Andrew Ledger keeping a nagging length on the off stump from the other end, Greenies restricted Prison in the early overs.
But Mohamed had other ideas. Obviously in a rich vein of form and displaying a new approach to his batting, the Prison skipper in three partnerships with Gerard Christian, Kemchand Dindyal and Steve Gordon calmed the troubled waters and then proceeded to take control picking the gaps all round the wicket. It was another master class batting display. Prison were eventually bowled out for 230 runs.
Greenies never got going and were reduced to 42 all out with outstanding bowling from Shajie Menon and Mahindra Sanichar.
At the Smith Road Oval, Pearson Best’s power hitting gave Police victory against ESSO Tigers which secured them fourth place.
In Clico Cayman Division 2, victories were recorded by JJ’S over Chillies and Esso Cubs over Paramount DTA.
The CICA Division 1 Knockout competition begins on Sunday. Prison are the favourites for the double but only time will tell.
