UCCI/West Bay won their first game for the season, when they defeated PRO Plus by 50 runs in a second division match played at the Smith Road Oval on Saturday.
Batting first, UCCI/West Bay scored 133 runs all out. George Johnson top scored with 35, Morvin ‘Twicks’ Brooks 26 and Matthew Rose 13.
Dave Wilson took 3 wickets for 30 runs, bowling for Pro Plus. In their turn at the crease, Pro Plus were bowled out for 83 runs. David Ross scored 19 runs and Jermaine Sooknanaan 15. Morvin Brooks took 3 wickets for 26 runs.
In another game played at the Jimmy Powell Oval, Greenies Too defeated Lions by 51 runs. Scores in this game were: Greenies Too 209 runs for 9 wickets. Scott Watson scored 64, Matt Walker 21, Simon Wetherell 17 and Dave McGrath 16 not out. Pieterse took 3 wickets for 29 runs and Faisal Ahmed 2 wickets for 38 runs bowling for The Lions.
In reply, Lions were bowled out for 158 runs. Ash scored 36 runs, Faisal Ahmed 27 and Mendis 14. John King and Scott Watson took 2 wickets each for 15 and 24 runs respectively, bowling for Greenies Too.
Sunday saw the start of the First Division knockout competition. In a game at the Jimmy Powell Oval, By-Rite defeated Greenies by 4 wickets
Greenies batted first and were restricted to 158 runs for the loss of 8 wickets after 40 overs. Tom Stephens scored 49 runs and Faisal Ahmed 20.
Bowling for By-Rite, Gary Tulloch, Sylvester Suberan and Troy Taylor took 2 wickets each for 16, 17 and 28 runs respectively.
By-Rite replied with 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Troy Taylor scored 40 not out, Joseph Kirkconnell 28, with Garfield Edwards and Michael Wight scoring 24 runs each.
Nick Sellars took 3 wickets for 19 runs bowling for Greenies.
In the other game between LIME Schools and Paramount, play had to be abandoned after 16 overs due to rain.
This game has been rescheduled for Sunday June 27 at the Jimmy Powell Oval. Police and Esso Tigers will also play their first round Knockout game next Sunday at Smith Road Oval.
Knock out games will commence at 11.30am.
