Zulu’s sizzle and Andro celebrate

With temperatures reaching close to 110 degrees the climate matched the intensity as Week 5 kicked off in Cayman Islands Flag Football Association play at Ed Bush Field in West Bay.

In the women’s league, Zulu’s Warriors kept their record perfect with a 40-21 thrashing of the DMS Dynamitez. Zulu’s were dominant as they dominated on both sides of the ball.

Ali Amos threw four touchdown passes, two each to workhorse Christina Bisnauth and Kate Marshall. Hortencia Jackson and Sophia Richards each returned an interception for a touchdown to round out the Warrior’s scoring.

For DMS Lisa Juenza had a decent day at the helm throwing three TD passes and a pair of interceptions. Keisha Terry caught two of the passes while Danielle Martinez-Gibson hauled in the other.

DMS falls to 2 and 3 on the year and have a bye this week while the 4 and 0 Warriors take on the Hammerhead Lady Sharks.

Andro Killa-Watts got their first win of the year as the much improved squad dominated Maples 28-13.

Andro who struggled all last year to find the winning touch looked like a championship squad in earning the victory. Christina McTaggart showed veterans poise in going 12 of 14 passing with four touchdowns.

Tonia Ebanks exploded with three TD catches and Sophie Dilbert had one to fill out the score sheet for Andro. For the winless Touchdown Divas, Lauri Webster was 9 of 14 passing with two touchdown tosses.

Sue Nixon caught both TD passes for Maples who were hurt by the absence of Loletta Hanna who played but was never in the mix.

Andro are now 1 and 3 and take on Ace Paint and Décor next week while Maples fall to 0 and 4 and the going does not get any easier as they go up against Walkers.

In the women’s final game Walkers kept pace with Zulus with a hard fought 19-6 victory over Hammerheads Lady Sharks.

Krishan Welcome was the star of the game for Walkers with five receptions, one for a touchdown and also five tackles and three sacks on the defensive side of the ball.

Malaqui Awe also caught a touchdown pass from Jordana Clarke who went 12 of 17 in the passing department with two TD passes. Cassandra Bodden rushed for the other Walkers score.

Hammerheads pulled out all the stops to try and solve Walkers but could not find the right combination. three different players threw passes for the Lady Sharks in an attempt to fool the Wonders defense.

Julie Ackerman was 9 of 15 passing while Bobeth O’Garro went 2 of 3 with a touchdown toss to Ellen Downey.

Downey also had three pass attempts from an option formation but threw two of them for interceptions.

Hammerheads are even at 2 and 2 on the year and play Zulu’s next while the 4 and 1 Wonders play the winless Maples squad tomorrow.
