Royal Cayman Islands Police swarmed the scene of the robbery Wednesday at the Quik Cash Money Transfer store in the Bodmer Building on Shedden Road, across the street from the Anderson Square building.
The robbery took place just after 10am in central George Town, in an area that was crowded with cruise ship tourists who had come ashore despite the drizzly conditions.
The Port Authority said three cruise ships were in harbour on Wednesday.
Tourists milled around the scene of the robbery along with locals; some asking the reporters who had responded to the scene what was occurring.
According to witnesses, two men entered the Quik Cash store just after 10am. One of them allegedly threatened the store clerk with a gun and made a customer inside lie down on the floor.
The men grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash then left through the front entrance a few minutes after. RCIPS officers were scouring the alley adjacent to the Bodmer Building in the immediate aftermath of the robbery.
No arrests had been reported. No one was hurt in the robbery.
