The equestrian season is in full swing and some of Cayman’s best young riders will be in action again today.
One of them is Elsie Boone, 16, who took top honours in a dressage competition at the Cayman Equestrian Centre recently.
‘I won the Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation dressage show last month,’ Boone said.
‘I’ve been riding since I was about seven. I first got into it because my older sister Ginny had been riding a little while and she has always been somewhat of an inspiration to me so I really have her to thank.
‘I followed in her footsteps and horseback riding just started to grow on me and I fell in love with it.’
The Cayman International School pupil competes in the Caribbean Equestrian Association dressage show.
Only around 14 riders will be competing though because so many kids are off island because of half-term. One of Boone’s fiercest rivals will be Alex Kennett who has ridden internationally many times.
Boone was the adult high point champion at the autumn dressage competition and Kennett the reserve champion.
The high point champion in the child category was Charlotte Hinds and Isabelle Smith the reserve champion.
