Cayman’s sailing scene has a lot to be proud of again; for the second consecutive year, Mike Farrington’s Compass Marine Ltd team has placed first at an international regatta.
The team won five out of seven races at the annual Jamin J/22 Regatta in Jamaica. The two-day event was held at the Montego Bay Yacht Club on 4-5 December.
Once again, Farrington teamed up with driver, Mike Weber and tactician, Marina Maffessanti. CI Sailing Club coach, Katrina Davis, joined the team on foredeck.
Another Cayman team led by recent Laser National champion, Nick Taylor, placed second. Taylor raced with Tomeaka McTaggart, Matt Diaz, and Jane Moon on the boat Calypso.
Third place went to the Jamaican boat, Zipper, helmed by Peter Harper.
Sailing conditions were ideal with moderate wind and flat water.
After the first day’s four races, Compass Marine Ltd and Calypso were tied with equal finishing positions. Compass dominated the second day, winning all three races and taking the overall title of regatta champion.
