Ship where body was found departs

The cruise ship Liberty of the Seas departed George Town harbour shortly after 6pm Thursday, but no further information was forthcoming about the body that was found on board earlier in the day.

According to police reports, a 37-year-old male was found dead in a cabin on board the giant vessel, which was in Cayman on a charter cruise catering to homosexual customers.

The body was found at 12.47pm Thursday according to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

At least two police boats were seen heading out to the cruise liner early Thursday afternoon from the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal along the George Town waterfront.

RCIPS officials did not confirm what caused the man’s death, but it was understood that police detectives had examined the scene.

It was also unclear whether the man’s body had been taken to shore in Grand Cayman or if it remained on the cruise ship.

The Caymanian Compass spoke with more than a dozen Liberty passengers Thursday. A few recalled seeing a police boat pull up to the giant liner but none knew about the body found on board.

The 37-year-old man was believed to be a ship passenger.
