Elderly snorkeler dies

Royal Cayman Islands Police
are investigating the death of a 75-year-old man following a snorkelling trip
on Grand Cayman Friday.

At about 2pm police said the
man was taking part in an organised snorkelling trip close to the Sandbar when
he became unwell and lot consciousness.

Local dive company workers
and Department of Environment officers who were nearby when the man got into
trouble went to his aid immediately.

The man was taken ashore by
Department of Environment officers.

He was then transported to
the Cayman Islands Hospital but was found to be dead on arrival.

The victim was a cruise ship
passenger who was visiting the island with several members of his family.

His home state is in
Kentucky, USA.

  1. This was not just any 75 year old man, but this was my loving grandfather. Yeah, I know, it sounds odd but my grandfather really was snorkeling when he passed away. As much as I am distraught, I also can’t help but smile every time I think about my Grandpa snorkeling in the beautiful waters of Grand Cayman. I am confident that he died in peace and in an amazing place. I love you Grandpa and will miss you!!!! I hope you are already settled into your new home in heaven.
