be hosting the CARIFTA Games from 3 to 5 April and the local organising
committee is appealing for volunteers to come forward to help with the games.
According to Cayman Islands
Athletics Association President Rayle Roberts, the volunteers play an essential
role at any major sporting event.
“The volunteers are really the life
of any one of these games so it is that important and that is why I will always
stress it until we have more than enough volunteers,” he said at a press
conference on Thursday.
“I am asking for more people to
come on board – it doesn’t matter what your skill set is, we will find
something for you to do,” he continued.
This is only the second time that
Cayman will be playing host to the Games and the local organising committee is
working hard to ensure that this is one of the best editions yet.
“Just go on the website, hit the
volunteer link and just sign on for whatever area you would like to get into
and we’ll go from there,” said Mr. Roberts.
The website allows prospective
volunteers to specify their area of interest, whether track, field, administrative,
transportation or liaison officers. Any other expertise can also be listed to
make sure that the organisers can find the ideal spot for every volunteer.
The website also provides valuable
information on the CARIFTA Games including information on the schedule of
events, records, tickets and sponsors (one of whom is the Caymanian Compass).
Those interested in volunteering
for the event can contact the CARIFTA office by email at [email protected]
or complete the volunteer form on the official CARIFTA website www.carifta2010.ky.
