Fab Packers carve up Dolphins

The season is still young but the
Security Centre Packers are rolling.

Last weekend the Packers won a
tight 19-14 match over the previously unbeaten Cayman Islands Flag Football
Association Dolphins.

Both teams play in the second
annual The Security Centre Youth Flag Football League at Camana Bay
on Saturdays.

With the win the Packers are 4-0
atop the middle division of the league. The Dolphins meanwhile are 2-1 in third

The league, which caters to boys
and girls 7-17 years-old, has been running since February with competitive
games into just their fourth week.

Nevertheless the Packers pulled
through thanks to solid runs, good defense and solid coaching from Darrell Porter.

A star two-way player for the
Stingers Giants in the men’s league last season, Porter has been one of many
adult league players helping out.

So far he has had the magic touch
helping coach the Packers and the junior division’s Burger King Gators to
unblemished marks.

The Gators in fact won their game
last Saturday chomping up the Walkers Wolverines 26-8. Offense has been in
heavy supply for the club who have already scored 99 points (tops in the

With the loss Walkers falls to 2-1
in second place. The Maples Raiders are third at 1-2 after beating division
rival the Strategic Risk Solution Steelers 26-7.

The Raiders-Steelers match, like
their NFL counterparts of years ago, centred on a stout run game. Tyrell Fisher
of Maples and Brynn Evans of the Steelers took turns eating up yards and wowing
the crowd of 50 odd people.

Packer green may be in style in the
middle division but the other clubs are not far off. The Al Le Kebab Titans
made a big jump with a pair of victories.

First the Titans beat the 1-3
Broadhurst Buccaneers 26-16 and then they kept the 0-3 flag football association
Colts winless with a 26-7 win.

Lastly in the senior division the
flag football association Saints, like last season’s NFL team, are flying high.
The club beat the 0-4 Auto Spa Giants 27-6 to remain unbeaten atop the division
at 4-0.

The Universal AC Ravens are second
at 2-2 after losing to the Saints 13-7.

Matches continue this Saturday at Camana Bay.
