Man charged with rape

 A
30-year-old man has been charged with rape following an alleged attack of a
teenage girl late last month.

Police
said that shortly after midnight on Tuesday, 30 March, a 16-year-old girl
reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a man who had offered her a
ride home from a bar in the Mary Street area of George Town.

She
told police that the man, instead of taking her home as agreed, took her to an
isolated beach and assaulted her.

The
following day, police arrested Jeffrey Alexander Barnes, from George Town. He
has been formally charged with rape, abduction, and threatening violence.

He
appeared in court on Monday for mention and will appear before the court again
on Thursday, 15 April.
