Wolves start title defense in style

The Wolves are off to a great start
in the 2010 national men’s basketball league.

Last Thursday the defending
champions took down the side they beat in last year’s finals the Esso Blazers
80-70 in overtime.

The shift indoors to the Arts and Recreation Center
at Camana Bay clearly was not an issue for either
team as both combined to rain in 11 three-pointers.

Four of those came from Dwight
O’Garro and Perry Levy. The starting power forward/center on the Wolves,
O’Garro showed a great stroke on the night as his jump shot was on point.

For his efforts O’Garro would lead
all scorers with 35 points, 19 rebounds and nine steals (nearly nabbing an
eye-opening triple-double).

Levy meanwhile showed his quickness
is only helped by the hardwood as he slashed and drove to the basket for 23
points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Both Levy and O’Garro also excelled
at the charity stripe taking over 13 attempts and making over 72 percent of

The star players had help from their
supporting cast. For the Wolves new recruit Brandon Glasgow (arguably local
hoops’ best young prodigy) delivered 20 points, five steals and four rebounds.

Esso meanwhile had an exceptionally
strong game from Kevin Maxwell. The big man posted a double-double with 18
points and 15 rebounds.

Last year’s finalists weren’t the
only clubs to play their first match. In the second game last Thursday new team
the Bulls beat the Wendy’s Tarheels 68-60.

Bulls, consisting of mostly veteran
players, were led by big man Chad Leslie. A member of last year’s Island Games
basketball team Leslie had 19 points, 18 rebounds and two steals.

Backing him up was star guard and
former George Town Sports Club member Kael Leslie with 16 points, three assists
and three steals.

For Wendy’s Omar Clarke continues
to be its best talent as he posted 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

Backing him up was Mike Morgan
(another former member of George Town Sports Club) who also had a double-double.
Morgan finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Matches continue on Thursday April
15 at Camana Bay. Two new clubs face off at 6:30pm in
the Dominos Warriors and team Phillipines before the Bulls tangle with team Colombia at
