A pole fire resulting in the loss
of the South Sound feeder caused a 90-minute power outage in parts of George
Town Thursday morning.
The outage, which started at
9.19am, affected businesses and private residences in the central George Town,
Dorcy Drive and the Smith Road areas, according to Caribbean Utilities
Company’s Manager of corporate communications Pat Bynoe-Clarke.
CUC line crews were called out and
full power was restored at 10.45am, the company’s spokesperson confirmed.
However, other places began losing power again after noon.
At press time the utilities company
was still unsure as to the cause of the fire. “Investigations are still
ongoing,” Mrs. Bynoe-Clarke said at 11.40am. “CUC apologies for the inconvenience
this outage may have caused,” she added.
