Capoeira workshops

Where can you
find a sport that combines the tenacity of martial arts, the gracefulness of
dance and the pizzazz of Brazilian culture? In capoeira, that is where. Now
those wanting to learn and participate in this exciting sport can get a
toe-hold into this fast growing activity.

Capoeira is
about to take it to another level in the Grand Cayman. For a few days only, the
Grupo Capoeira Brasil Cayman Islands will host four workshops to be run by
visiting expert Mestre Curumim, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a world renowned
master of this art form.

This historic
event will be the first time ever that a capoeira master has come to the Cayman
Islands, and the members of Grupo Capoeira Brasil Cayman Islands are honoured
that he has volunteered to help promote the dynamic sport.

workshops will be held from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday 22 and Friday, 23 April at
Miss Jackie’s School of Dance, Pasadora Place, Smith Road. Weekend workshops
will be held from 10am to 12pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday, 25 April at the Arts
& Recreation Centre, Cayman International School.

The workshops
cost $50 for one session, $75 for two and $90 for three, making the  fourth session free. A Capoeira T-shirt is
included in these prices.

To participate
in the workshops or for more information on regular classes, contact Instructor
Koé, at 547-3673; Instructor Panda, at 548-4386 or email [email protected].

The club will
also be doing two free outdoor performances, one on Friday, 23 April at The
Paseo, Camana Bay, at 8.45pm and on Saturday in front of the wave machine at
Grand Harbour, at 7pm.

Capoeira workshops for beginners and intermediates will run from 22 – 25 April.
