Police: Tourist struck in road

Woman in critical condition

 A 60-year-old woman was struck by a
vehicle as she crossed West Bay Road at the Strand at 7pm on Monday night.

The accident victim is in critical
condition in Cayman Islands Hospital.

According to police investigating the accident, the woman was hit by a vehicle travelling south-bound on West Bay Road. She fell onto the windshield of that vehicle and was thrown into the opposite lanes, into the path of an on-coming car.

The woman is a visitor to the Cayman Islands from the US.

The male driver of the vehicle that struck the woman was arrested on
suspicion of dangerous driving.

West Bay Road at the Strand
remained partly closed on Tuesday morning as police officers took measurements
at the scene.

  1. Surely now that the bypass has its speed limit at 40 we should finally be able to use West Bay Road as the local access road that it is. Drop the speed limit, put in numerous crossings to facilitate our visitors and therefore ‘encourage’ those with no business needs on West Bay Road to use the bypass where there is limited pedestrian traffic.

  2. What she needs is a lot of prayer right now. Please include her in your prayers tonight, and her family as well. What is a news item to you, is real life to a wonderful family who would never deserve this.
