CFP Buzz Crusaders confirmed their
dominance with another championship win in the WestTel five-a-side league last
Having already won the Division
Three league title, unbeaten in 12 matches, including 11 wins, the playoff championship
match against Doghouse Devils II was an opportunity to prove they really were
the best team.
Doghouse Devils had drawn with Buzz
in a league game in March, 2-2, the only side to take points off them.
Doghouse had started their league
season at King’s Sports Centre slowly but found their momentum in the second
half of the season and even beat a strong KPMG side 2-0 in the playoff semis. They
also boasted the division’s second top scorer in Ian Lambert who had blasted in
The championship game started at a
frenzied pace but it wasn’t until well into the first half that the first goal
was scored, a beauty from Buzz’s Dan Stuber, his 14th of the season.
Buzz’s star striker Kris Pearson
hit two in succession just before the break to take his season’s tally to 20.
Doghouse forced the pace in the
second half and grabbed their solitary goal through veteran Alan Johnson. But
there was no comeback because Jermaine ‘Jerry’ Baker wrapped it up for Buzz who
cruised to a 4-1 win.
Having won two championships and
dominated Division Three, CFP Buzz Crusaders now move up to Division Two.
