Drowning victim found

Police have confirmed that the victim in an apparent drowning was recovered in the waters off Smith Cove, George Town Sunday. 

According to police, the person who was found had apparently gone swimming earlier in the day Sunday and never returned.

The man was reported missing around 1.20pm Sunday afternoon in the area of Sand Cay. A police Marine Unit craft was dispatched shortly after and RCIPS officers recovered the man’s body shortly afterward. 

The man was not identified. He was believed to be a Jamaican in his mid-40’s. 

The victim was brought to shore while Marine Unit crews performed CPR. He was later pronounced dead at George Town hospital. 

Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances in the death.
