Sprint queen Cydonie Mothersill is
officially the fittest woman athlete in the Cayman Islands.
She topped a recent poll conducted
by the Caymanian Compass, finishing ahead of second placed runner Beth
Schreader and squash ace Marlene West in third.
Mothersill was given a $75 voucher
by Sports Supply as a gesture of her brilliance over the years, flying the flag
for the Cayman Islands at international track and field meets.
It has been a wonderful start to
the season for Mothersill. She finally collected her bronze medal for coming
third in the World Championships 200 metres nine years ago and ran a fast time
in Jamaica last week as part of her preparations for the start of the Diamond
League season this weekend in Doha, Qatar.
Mothersill said: “It was really
cool winning this title. I didn’t even know about the poll. I used the voucher
to get a stretch rope and some other things.
“It was nice of Sports Supply to do
that. At this stage of my career I know exactly what I need to do and what I
don’t need to do. Racing in Jamaica I felt awesome and only good things can
come from that.”
Chad Chapman of Sports Supply said:
“We’re always happy to contribute to someone who is doing so well for the sports
scene in the Cayman Islands.
While Mothersill is competing in
the Diamond League, local youngsters will be honing their skills at another
development meet on Saturday at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
