West Bay supports Powell

The West Bay Sports Foundation is
holding a football tournament on Sunday to help finance the medical bills of
former footballer Adryan Powell, the victim of a gun attack last year who is
now confined to a wheelchair.

The objective of the West Bay
Sports Foundation is to promote sports in the district and to assist with any
athletes – not limited to footballers – in the community that are furthering
their education in sports. On Sunday some of Cayman’s best young talent will be
playing: Sebastian Martinez (Academy), Colin Flynn (7 Mile Soccer), Leandrew
Powell (Bodden Town F.C) and Brandon Ebanks from West Bay Select.

The event is the West Bay Community
Cup Under 13 Tournament at the Ed Bush Playing Field. Kickoff is 2pm. There are
four participating teams; 7 Mile Soccer, Academy, Bodden Town and West Bay

For the first time in Cayman, four
participating teams will receive direct financial assistance to their clubs
which will be used to assist in sponsoring one of their players educationally
or for further development of their football programme. In addition, the gate
and canteen will be managed by the family and friends of Adryan Powell, 14.

The foundation is grateful to
sponsors Fidelity Bank, Burger King, MJS Plumbing, Fire extinguisher Pros and
SureBuilt Construction Ltd.

“The day promises to be an exciting
one and we’re inviting everyone to come out and support this worthy cause which
will be capped by the presentation of the tournament’s Most Valuable Player,”
said organiser Arden ‘Cheeky’ Rivers. He hopes there will be good turnout for
this worthy cause.
