Charges in murder of cop’s son
Royal Cayman Islands Police have charged a man in connection with a triple shooting that left one young man dead and another paralysed from the waist down.
Twenty-six year-old Raziel Omar Jeffers made a brief court appearance Thursday in relation to the July 2009 shooting that killed 20-year-old Marcus Ebanks and paralysed 14-year-old Adryan Powell. A third victim, Rod Ebanks (now 19) recovered from his injuries.
Gunfire erupted around 8pm on 7 July, 2009 off Bonaventure Road where a group of boys were hanging around outside a house.
At the time, police said two gunmen jumped from behind the bushes across the road from the home and began firing indiscriminately into the group.
It was believed that neither Marcus Ebanks, nor his brother Rod, nor the 14-year-old Powell was believed to be the intended target of the shooting.
Jeffers has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Jeffers was also recently charged in the killing of Damion Ming in West Bay. Ming was killed on 25 March in a night-time attack on Captain Joes and Osbert Road.
