Two major motorcycle wrecks

Linford Pierson Highway the scene

Two serious motorcycle accidents
occurred Friday and Monday afternoon along the same stretch of the Linford
Pierson Highway in George Town.

The latest crash, which happened
around 6pm Monday, killed a local man – who had not been identified by police
at press time.

Police said the man involved was
taken to the Cayman Islands hospital with serious injuries and later passed
away.

In the Friday afternoon wreck,
police blocked off traffic heading into Prospect from George Town for hours
Friday afternoon following a serious, rush-hour accident along the Linford
Pierson Highway.

The road was blocked about a mile
from the roundabout near the Lions centre just after 4pm and traffic was being
diverted.

The accident involved a motorcycle
which had apparently lost control and spun out in the road way. It was unknown
if any other vehicles were involved.

The bike caught fire after the
wreck and fire crews had to respond to put out the small blaze. One man, who
was believed to be a customs officer, was taken to hospital. Medical personnel
described him as conscious and alert. He was expected to survive.
