Bomb threat at Kirk Home Centre

Kirk Home Centre was evacuated late Tuesday
afternoon in response to a bomb threat.

The Cayman Islands Fire Services and police
confirmed that there had been a report of a bomb threat called in to the store
on Eastern Avenue in George Town.

Staff and customers evacuated the building
following the threat.

Evening rush-hour traffic was snarled in
the area as fire trucks and police cars attended the scene and cleared
pedestrians from the site.

Police blocked off Eastern Avenue from the
junctions with Bodden Road to Godfrey Nixon Way.

Eventually, police determined the threat had been bogus and gave the all clear signal. The entire incident took about three-and-a-half hours to deal with.
