Investigation into weekend assaults continues

Police are still searching for suspects following two assaults near the Limestone Ironshore nightclub on Friday night. An inspector on the case originally told a Caymanian Compass reporter one person had been arrested in connection with one of the incidents, but police officials now say no arrests have been made.

Inspector Richard Hartfford said one of the
cases involved serious head injuries and the victim may be transported by air
ambulance for further care.

“I cannot confirm if it has
happened yet, but I understand a person may need to be airlifted to another
destination for further medical attention,” said the inspector, who added that
he was also unable to say with certainty whether the victims were patrons of
the nightclub when the assaults occurred.

At 1.09am on 9 July, police
responded to a report of an injured man in the vicinity of LI Nightclub on
Lawrence Boulevard. A 19-year-old University College of the Cayman Islands
student had sustained serious head injuries.

Later on the same date,
another report was received about a man at the LI Nightclub, who had a stab
wound and injuries to his hip
and head.

Also, Brown’s Esso off Dorcy
Drive was robbed on Friday night. A man with a handgun demanded cash and then
fled on a bicycle toward Industrial Park.
