Bruce is almighty

Bruce Thompson etched his name in
local hoops lore this month. The young man was the star for the Derek Bogle
Insurance Warriors as the side won the national basketball league division two
championships.

Thompson notched 21 points and four
steals in game one and 30 points and 10 rebounds in game two last Wednesday as
the Warriors swept the Rock Hole Fire Ants in the best-of-three finals. The
team’s leading scorer throughout the regular season, Thompson’s post-season
heroics also earned the Warriors a promotion to division one for next season.

Like all modern basketball stars,
Thompson was not without help. Lisani Sambula emerged his unlikely sidekick
with 12 points and eight rebounds in game one and 16 points and seven rebounds
in game two. Another team-mate worthy of note is Darryl Paddyfoot who notched
18 points and 20 rebounds in game one and nine points and 24 rebounds in game
two.
