New principal for Grace Christian Academy

An educator with more than 20
years’ experience in Cayman and the US is the new principal for Grace Christian
Academy.

Ramona Melody previously was
principal at the First Baptist Christian School in Grand Cayman and is
currently the director of education for Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department
in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she manages and coordinates educational
opportunities for 270 students.

A Caymanian, Mrs. Melody received
her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of
Nebraska in 1982 and her master’s degree in education in 1998.  She also received certification for advanced
study in head-teacher leadership through the National Education Leadership
Program of the Cayman Islands in 2004.

“Ramona has a passion for providing
every child with the highest quality educational experience. She is a proven
leader, fostering an atmosphere of trust and teamwork, where every staff member
is encouraged to do their best work and each student valued for his or her
unique talents,” said Gloria Glidden, chair of the Grace Christian Academy
Board of Directors.

“We also commend our deputy
principal, Claire Upperton, for her excellent stewardship during this
transition,” said Ms Glidden.

“For the past six years, Claire has
been a dedicated Pre-K teacher for our school as well as assuming the deputy
principal role for the past two-and-a-half years.”

In another development, Grace
Christian Academy will be introducing a full science program and an information
technology programme for the coming school year.
