Juvenile driver flies off motorcycle

Boy seriously injured, possibly drunk

Royal Cayman Islands Police were investigating an accident in West Bay where a teenage boy apparently drove a motorcycle into a fence and flew off, breaking his shoulder.

The boy was taken to the Cayman Islands hospital following the 5.20pm accident and was expected to survive.

However, police said the teen was arrested for allegedly driving the motorcycle without its owner’s consent. He was also suspected of driving while drunk.

According to accident witnesses, the juvenile motorcycle driver lost control of the vehicle on Birch Tree Hill road, drove into a barbed wire fence and a hedge and sailed off the bike into a parked vehicle.

Police were still investigating the wreck on Monday night and asked anyone with information to call PC Wheeler at 946-6254.

  1. Wait til he’s 16 and gets his driver’s licence! He drinks and drives now as a juvenile — what next? He’s luck he didn’t kill someone. They can’t even suspend his licence because he doesn’t have one. He’ll march into the Licence department when he turns 16 and get a licence like an other 16 year old. Well, here’s hoping the courts can do something — no doubt this kid’s name will become a familiar one around the police station when he’s older.
