Restaurant worker fights off robber with spoon

A customer inside Liberty’s Restaurant in West Bay was robbed Friday night by an armed suspect, according to Royal Cayman Islands Police.

That robber then ran off after an attendant inside the kitchen of the restaurant threw a spoon at him, police said.

The bizarre incident occurred around 10pm Friday, when a masked man who appeared to be carrying a handgun entered Liberty’s, ran up to the counter, and grabbed money from a woman who was paying her bill at the time.

Police said the masked man then went into the kitchen and demanded money from a restaurant worker – who chucked a spoon at him.

After that, the suspect ran off towards Hell Road on foot. No arrests were immediately reported.

No one was hurt in the robbery and no shots were fired.

The suspect was described as short, between 5’5″ and 5’6″ and slim with a dark complexion. He was wearing a red shirt, long jeans and wore a bandana over his face.

Anyone with information on the robbery or who witnessed the incident is asked to call the West Bay Criminal Investigation Department at 949-3990 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477.
