Cancer awareness meetings

During the Cayman Islands Cancer
Society’s first in a series of gynaecological cancers awareness meetings last
week in North Side, Dr. Steve Tomlinson donated 50 vouchers to the Cancer
Society to perform free Pap smears for women with limited or no health
insurance. He also encouraged women to have physical exams performed on a
regular basis.

Throughout September the Cancer
Society is observing gynaecological cancers awareness month with district
meetings every Thursday at 7pm. On 16 September, a visiting doctor from Johns
Hopkins University, Sara Pai, will present on HPV and related cancers at the Savannah
Primary School.

Vouchers for free Pap smears will
be distributed at each district meeting and at the Cancer Society office next
to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town (Monday – Friday, 8.30am –
4.30pm).

The non-profit Cayman Islands
Cancer Society is dedicated to preventing the development of cancer through its
education programmes and screening initiatives, as well as providing financial
assistance to cancer patients and their families with treatment related
expenses.

The society also offers counselling
and support to cancer patients and their families. It funds its programmes
through fundraising events and donations from the public and from the corporate
sector.
