Humble Lions feel predatory instincts will prevail

International football returns to
Cayman this weekend with a top Jamaican club side taking on the national side.

The Clarendon based Premier League
Humble Lions arrive in George Town on Friday for two friendly games against the
Cayman Islands national senior men’s team.

The games are on Saturday and
Sunday at the TE McField Annex Sports Centre at 7pm. This event marks the final
preparations for the Carl Brown coached team before they leave the following
Thursday for Puerto Rico to compete in the Digicel Championship Cup. Cayman
have been training from last December and are just about putting the finishing
touches to face St Martin, Anguilla and hosts Puerto Rico on 2, 4 and 6 October

The Christopher Bender coached team
since their promotion to the Premier League last season were impressive in the
All Island FLOW Knock-Out competition. The team knocked out all of their
opponents and lost to Boys Town 3-2 in the finals. Humble Lions have been a
force for decades. Their best players include Kevin Mighty and Denzil Watson up
front, Ricardo Campbell and captain Shawn Sawyers (keeper), former national
player Winston Griffiths and Cornelius Henry in midfield. They are expected to
give Cayman Islands a much needed workout.

Bender said: “It’s a privilege for
Humble Lions to have received this invitation to play against the Cayman
Islands national team. I feel honoured and very grateful for this opportunity
as there is several other clubs who could have gotten this offer.

“We certainly want to represent as
a club and more significantly representing Jamaica knowing that we have many
Jamaican ex-pats living in the Cayman Islands. We are at the beginning of the
Premier League season and still trying to find our best 11. We are improving as
the season progresses therefore I expect a great performance. These two games
will help the team significantly in the club’s progression. Thanks to the
Cayman Islands Football Association for inviting us there.”
