Caymanian earns open-campus degree

Caymanian Sherren James recently
graduated from the University of West Indies Open Campus with a Bachelor of
Science degree in management studies.

This year’s ceremony, which she
attended in Grenada, marked the second annual graduation presentation held by
the UWI Open Campus.

Robert Geofroy, head of UWI Open
Campus (Cayman), said the Open Campus programmes have started to take off in Cayman.

“As a distance centre trying to
cope with virtual education as well as offer local courses to fill immediate
needs and build skills among our people, we are already at full capacity,” he
said.

When Ms. James started at UWI,
there were only six Cayman students.  Now
UWI Open Campus has 28 students in the bachelor degree programmes alone.  Several students are enrolled in the master’s
programme.  Another 30 are registered in
the Bachelor of Science degree in nursing programme.

The centre has recently introduced
pre-university programmes and there are a variety of local courses and workshops
to accommodate students in different areas.
