Meals on heels was fun

Halloween Sunday got a little scary
for some intrepid high heel wearers because they attempted to sprint in their
stilettos. It was all for a good cause though.

Runners, walkers and high heel
dashers donned bright orange t-shirts and took to the street for the first ever
Le Classique ‘Meals on Heels’ race. The event was to raise funds and awareness
for the Meals on Wheels programme. Not only were people out supporting Meals on
Wheels it was an opportunity to walk a Humane Society dog and have an early
morning workout to help them get in shape for Christmas. The high heel race
came after a 5k walk/run event from the TE McField Community Centre, off
Eastern Avenue in George Town.

Meals on Wheels board member Kerri
Kanuga was pleased with the participation at the event and noted that everyone
involved, including the volunteers, had smiles on their faces. “Perhaps this
was due to the high heel dash at the end,” she said. “Everyone was a good sport
and I was surprised how well the men were able to run in heels!

“On behalf of the board I would
like to thank everyone who participated, especially Coach Jerry Harper and the
volunteers, without whom these events are not possible.  We are looking to host an even bigger event
next year.”

The first place male prize went to
Stephen Coles and the first place female was Maria Leonca, although it was a
very close race.
