Deadly De Riso has six appeal

Match-of-the-day in the Heineken Sunday League in round 9 was the Ed Bush clash between joint league leaders Agua FC and Fire Pros Boca Juniors.

This was the first occasion the two teams have met this season and the other teams were keeping a watchful eye on the outcome.

After a cagey first half, after the break Agua found top form. Moreno Pellegrini broke the deadlock after 68 minutes and during the aftermath Fire Pros’ Fred Ebanks was shown his second yellow card for dissent.

Agua’s extra man advantage was exploited three minutes later when Luciano De Riso hit his sixth goal of the season, giving his side a valuable 2-0 win and a three point lead at the top of the table.

Third place Harry’s FC lost ground when they conceded a last minute equaliser against MC Devils during their clash at the TE McField Annex. Harry’s enjoyed the better chances and greater possession during the game but only had a slender one goal lead to show for it thanks to Irons McKenzie’s fifth goal of the season on 60 minutes.

However, going into the last minute of the match Harry’s missed chances came back to haunt them. When Devils’ Kevin Ashworth picked up a clearance mid-way in Harry’s half he only had one thought in his mind as he hit a screamer from 30 yards.

The other game at the Annex was Old Boys match against a floundering International Kickers side. Kickers started slowly in the game and were caught cold when Dan Cummings hit a quick free kick from the edge of the box. More trouble for Kickers followed after 23 minutes when their full back McLaughlin was shown his second yellow card.

Kickers did manage to prevent further scoring but after the break Cummings scored twice to claim his hat-trick. Paul Blenkinsop also chipped in to give a final 4-0 score.

The Sunday League has not had a shortage of goals with an average of over four per game so far. The race for the golden boot award sees Agua’s Tirotta leading with eight, followed by team-mate De Riso and Fire Pros’ Mike Ebanks both on six.
