A West Bay liquor store was robbed Thursday afternoon around 3.40pm, Royal Cayman Islands Police said.
The incident occurred at Joe-Ena’s store, which is located just down the street from the police station on West Church Street, according to officers.
The lone store clerk inside was not hurt in the robbery. The suspect was reported to have a gun, but police were not certain if the weapon was real.
According to police, the suspect pointed the weapon at store cashier and then pointed it at the ceiling. The store clerk said she heard a loud bang shortly after.
Police could not immediately determine if a shot was actually discharged from the weapon.
The suspect grabbed some cash and made off in the direction of Gunter Link nearby where it’s believed he got into a vehicle. He’s described as about 6’3″ and thin, wearing a dark coloured sweat shirt and dark jeans. The man had a white cloth covering his face during the robbery, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).
